Creating the perfect morning with a great night-time routine | Win Your Week # 45

Welcome to Win Your Week - our weekly blog on all things motivation, mindfulness, life hacks and more!

This week it's all about night-time routines.

A successful day starts the night before. A night-time routine that includes steps toward preparing for the next day can have several advantages and make things better for your future self.

So, what should you put into your night-time routine?

Take care of morning chores

If you struggle to get out the door in the morning, ask yourself what usually holds you up.

Maybe you spend a lot of time deciding on an outfit, or never know where to find your keys.

Setting aside 15 to 30 minutes in the evening to prepare for the next day can help prevent hold ups in the mornings and give you peace of mind when you get into bed.

Try taking care of these chores in the evening:

  • Make your lunch
  • Load up the coffee maker
  • Gather your essentials (keys, wallet, sunglasses) in one spot
  • Wash the dishes
  • Set out your clothes for the next day

Make A To-Do List

There’s only so much you can do in preparation for tomorrow. But for everything else, you can write a list.

Spending 5 minutes writing a to-do list at night can help you avoid thinking about everything you need to do as you’re trying to fall asleep.

A to-do list can also help you feel more in control of tomorrow before it even begins!

Wind Down

You don’t have to wait until it’s lights-out to start winding down.

Filling your evening with calming activities helps you avoid overstimulating your mind and body as the day draws to a close.

You may want to try…

  • Having a warm bath,
  • Drinking a hot beverage
  • Lighting a candle,
  • Reading
  • Meditating
  • Listening to some calming music

Cut off caffeine early

That hot beverage we mentioned - probably best if it’s not coffee. Save those for your morning 😉

In fact, even a mid-arvo coffee can interfere with your sleep. It might help you make it through the 3pm slump, but the caffeine can have consequences later. Instead, opting for tea or a nice warm hot chocolate is the better choice.

Two of our favourite night-time drinks are Black Cherry Tea and Turkish Delight Hot Chocolate - why not give them a try?

Over to you...

Hopefully you've found these night-time routine tips useful. Give them a go and you might just find your morning improves too!
