Gourmet Sandwiches at Home: Elevated Recipes & Perfect Drink Pairings
There’s a quiet luxury in a really good sandwich. Not the rushed, thrown-together kind — but the kind with intention: layers of flavour, contrasting textures, something warm, something fresh. The kind that turns a simple lunch into something you actually look forward to. These gourmet sandwich recipes are designed to feel elevated without being complicated, paired with drinks that bring out the best in every bite. 1. Crispy Prosciutto, Burrata & Fig Sandwich Sweet, salty, creamy perfection Ingredients: Sourdough or ciabatta Prosciutto Fresh burrata Fig jam or fresh figs Rocket (arugula) Olive oil Method: Lightly toast your bread. Crisp the prosciutto in a pan until slightly crunchy. Spread fig jam on the base. Layer burrata, prosciutto, and rocket. Drizzle with olive oil and close. 👉 Why it works: creamy + salty + sweet + peppery — perfectly balanced. 2. Grilled Chicken, Pesto & Avocado Sandwich Fresh, herby, and satisfying Ingredients: Grilled chicken breast Avocado Basil pesto Tomato slices Baby spinach Wholegrain or sourdough bread Method: Slice grilled chicken. Spread pesto generously on both sides of the bread. Layer chicken, avocado, tomato, and spinach. Toast lightly if desired. 👉 Why it works: herbaceous pesto + creamy avocado + protein = balanced and filling. Drink pairing:🥤 Iced green tea or lemon sparkling water→ keeps it fresh and light. 3. Mushroom, Swiss Cheese & Truffle Melt Earthy, rich, and deeply comforting Ingredients: Mixed mushrooms (button, portobello, etc.) Swiss cheese Butter Garlic Thyme Optional: truffle oil Sourdough bread Method: Sauté mushrooms with garlic, butter, and thyme until golden. Layer mushrooms and cheese between bread slices. Grill until crispy and melted. Finish with a drizzle of truffle oil (optional). 👉 Why it works: deep umami flavours with a crispy, melty texture. 4. Steak, Caramelised Onion & Mustard Sandwich Bold, rich, and indulgent Ingredients: Cooked steak (sliced) Caramelised onions Dijon or wholegrain mustard Rocket Ciabatta or baguette Method: Spread mustard on bread. Add sliced steak and caramelised onions. Top with rocket for freshness. Serve warm. 👉 Why it works: rich + sharp + slightly sweet = classic flavour combo.' 5. Roasted Veg, Hummus & Feta Sandwich (Vegetarian) Colourful, wholesome, and flavour-packed Ingredients: Roasted eggplant, zucchini, capsicum Hummus Crumbled feta Spinach or rocket Wholegrain bread Method: Spread hummus generously. Layer roasted vegetables and feta. Add greens for freshness. Toast lightly or serve as is. 👉 Why it works: creamy + roasted sweetness + salty feta = satisfying without heaviness. Drink pairing:🥤 Mint lemonade or sparkling water with citrus→ brightens the roasted flavours. How to Build a Gourmet Sandwich (Every Time) If you want to freestyle your own: ✔️ Start with good bread (this matters most)✔️ Add a creamy element (cheese, avocado, hummus)✔️ Include texture (crispy, toasted, or fresh greens)✔️ Balance flavours (sweet + salty + acid) 👉 It’s less about the recipe, more about the combination. The Takeaway Gourmet sandwiches aren’t about complexity — they’re about intentional layering. With just a few thoughtful ingredients and a good drink pairing, even a simple sandwich becomes something you’d happily order at a café. So whether it’s a slow weekend lunch or a quick weekday upgrade, these combinations are designed to make the everyday feel just a little more elevated.

Our Story
Cashmere Syrups are a product of The Rainbow Syrup Company. We're an Australian small family business based in Brisbane, Australia, and we've been operating since 2005.
Before 2020, RSC primarily focused on wholesale and events, but with lockdowns and everything else going on that year, we found that this line of business was greatly impacted.
We knew we needed to do something different, so we dipped our toes into selling directly online - and Cashmere Syrups was born.
Since then, we've gone on to sell over 500,000 bottles of flavoured syrup directly to individuals, cafes and workplaces alike.
We've been so thrilled with the support so far, and we can't wait to keep sharing exciting new flavours with you all.
Every purchase you make helps Australian Small Businesses - and not just ours, but our Aussie farmers, suppliers and couriers too!
All the best,
Russell, Jacob and the Cashmere Syrups team.
