How To Use: Lattes, Iced Coffee, Hot Chocolate and More

Swap it in anywhere you'd normally reach for a standard flavoured syrup. The lower sugar content doesn't change how it works in drinks at all.

In a latte or flat white

  • Add 15 mL of hazelnut syrup to your cup before pulling your shot over the top.
  • Add steamed milk and give it a quick stir. That's genuinely all there is to it.
  • Works beautifully in a piccolo if you want a smaller, more concentrated hit of hazelnut.

Iced hazelnut coffee

  • Add 15 to 20 mL to a glass of ice, pour cold brew or espresso over the top, then fill with cold milk.
  • Oat milk works really well here if you want to keep things lighter.
  • For a frappe, blend it all together until smooth.

Hot chocolate and other drinks

  • Stir 15 mL through your hot chocolate for a Nutella-adjacent situation that is very hard to say no to.
  • Works in smoothies and protein shakes too if you want a bit of natural hazelnut sweetness without the sugar hit.
  • Also great drizzled over porridge or stirred through yoghurt.

Tasting Notes

Warm, toasty hazelnut with a natural nuttiness that settles in nicely behind the coffee without trying to overpower it. It's not the fake hazelnut you get from some cheaper syrups -- this actually tastes like roasted nuts, not hazelnut-flavoured candy. The sweetness is real but restrained, which is the whole point of the Lite range. At 15 mL it's subtle enough to let the coffee come through. At 20 mL it's more forward and richer. Both are good depending on what you're after.

If you love hazelnut but want the full-sugar version, the Cashmere Hazelnut Coffee Syrup is also worth a look. And if you're keen to try the rest of the lower sugar range, check out the full Cashmere Lite collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the regular Cashmere Hazelnut Coffee Syrup?

The main difference is the sugar content. The standard Hazelnut Coffee Syrup uses regular sugar, while this one uses low GI raw cane sugar and a natural sweetener to bring it down to 5 grams of sugar per serve. The hazelnut flavour is very similar in both. If you're keeping an eye on sugar intake, the Lite version is the better pick. If sugar isn't a concern, either works great.

Does it have an artificial sweetener aftertaste?

No. The sweetener used is erythritol (968), which is a natural sugar alcohol that behaves much more like real sugar in terms of taste. A lot of people can't tell the difference at all. It doesn't leave the lingering bitterness or chemical edge that stevia and some other sweeteners can.

How much should I use per drink?

Start at 15 mL, which is one standard pump if you're using a Cashmere syrup pump. That's the recommended serve and usually enough for most coffee drinks. If you want it a bit stronger, try 20 mL. For hot chocolate or smoothies where there's more to balance against, 20 to 25 mL tends to work better.

Can I use it in cold drinks?

Absolutely. It dissolves just as easily in cold drinks as hot ones since it's already a liquid. Great in iced lattes, cold brew, frappes, and protein shakes. No need to dissolve it first or do anything differently to how you'd use it in a hot drink.

What other flavours are in the Cashmere Lite range?

There's also Vanilla, Caramel, Salted Caramel, and Chai Spiced Tea in the Lite range. All of them follow the same formula: under 5 grams of sugar per serve, no artificial sweeteners, made in Australia.
